Grab a large trash can to dispose of anything that has expired, broken or you simply don’t like anymore.

After eliminating the toss pile, sort the remainder into like groups. You can make piles for tooth care, haircare, makeup, body care and such.

  1. Use a large wicker basket to store towels.

Finding room to store bath towels can be challenging in a small bathroom. Not all bathrooms are equipped with a linen closet.

A large wicker basket is the perfect solution for storing towels in a small bathroom.

Large baskets are decorative as well as functional. I use baskets to organize my home in nearly every room.

Neatly roll the towels and stand them on end then place them in the basket. Here they are within reach of the bathtub or shower.

I love how they look.

  1. Install a multi arm towel holder.

When you are limited on space, a multi arm towel holder is a life saver. This way each person can hang their towel on a different rod without taking up additional space. The towels can air dry thoroughly without mildewing. And no more towels all over the floor!

This towel holder is from Ikea. It has four rods which makes it perfect for a kids bathroom. What a brilliant way to organize damp towels.

  1. Install wall shelves.

Adding shelves to available wall space is one of the best ways to create additional storage. Shelves are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

One of the most accessible places to add shelving would be over the toilet.

Another idea is to add a shelf over the top of the bathroom doorway. This would be the ideal spot for those items that are only needed occasionally. Or even to use that space as overflow for those things that you might buy in bulk.

  1. Use two tier sliding basket organizers for under the sink organization.

Two tier sliding basket organizers come in many configurations, materials and finishes. They can be made from metal or plastic or acrylic. You can pick a type that coordinates with your bathroom.

I love to use these for under the sink organization. This way I can take full advantage of the available space under the sink cabinet. Including all the vertical space.

These are perfect for storing your toiletries. This allows you to use all that valuable space in the back of your cabinets. I love the how functional these are.

I like to buy the jumbo size of my shampoo and conditioner. The organizers with the shelf on top allows me to store those big sizes. The sliding basket underneath makes it easy to get to my stuff without having to reach back into the cabinet.

I prefer the organizers that have a shelf on top and a sliding basket underneath. By using one of these under my sink, my storage space has doubled.

Bathroom vanity cabinets rarely have a builtin shelf due to the plumbing. Because of that issue, make sure you get the correct size sliding basket organizer when you go shopping. You need to calculate the plumbing clearances to ensure the organizer will fit properly.

Measure the distance between the plumbing and the inside of your vanity. Take into account the door jam. This can limit your space. Then measure the height of where you need your unit to go. Remember that your products will take additional space. This will give you the dimensions to fully use that space. Plumbing can get in the way of storage units.

Measure carefully so you don’t have to make multiple trips to the store to exchange the sizes. Yeah, that was me. I measure twice now.

  1. A small plastic drawer unit to store and organize over the counter meds.

This is my favorite hack. Buy a small three or four plastic drawer unit. Then organize your over the counter meds into categories.

I used Pain, Allergy and Cold labels. Those are the ones we use the most.

Using my Cricut Maker, I cut out vinyl labels. Then I put on one label per drawer.

Since, the meds were already sorted, I dumped them into their respective drawers.

This fits nicely inside my bathroom cabinet.

It’s now so much easier to get what we need without digging through a bathroom cabinet or drawer. What a time saver.

  1. Hang a wall basket.

Baskets are my favorite organizational tool. I use them in my kitchen organization extensively. They work just as well in the bathroom.

Hanging a basket on the wall is easy to do. I especially like wire baskets that are specifically designed to hang on the wall. They come in many different sizes so you can find one that suits your needs. For convenience, they already have holes for hanging.

Hanging wire baskets are ideal for storing cosmetics and hair products.

You could even designate one as a first aid station. Place bandaids, antiseptic and ointments.

  1. Place a basket on top of the toilet tank.

Having extra toilet paper near the toilet is a priority at my house. The best place I have found is to store extra rolls in a basket on top of the toilet tank. No more emergency toilet paper runs. A quick glance will tell you if you need to purchase more.

Or use it to store extra wash cloths. Or soap. To keep the basket pretty, store all items that coordinate with each other. Like the all white wash cloths or all white toilet paper. Bars of pretty soap would be a great display as well as being practical.

  1. Rolling carts are a portable solution.

Rolling carts are a great mobile storage solution. When you need something, you roll it to you and push it away when you are finished.

They come in many sizes. Measure the space where you can store the rolling cart when not in use. Decide how large you want it to be.

Then fill it up with all your toiletries. These carts make wonderful make up stations, too.

You can find rolling carts at about any big discount stores.

My favorite rolling cart is the Raskog by Ikea. I use it as a baking station. They are very handy for many rooms in your home.

  1. Place a lazy susan under the sink for more organization.

A lazy susan is a round turntable enabling you to see every item with only a turn. This workhorse keeps everything neat and tidy.

There are different types of these turntables. They come with tall sides or no sides. With inserts to help organize or no inserts. I recommend getting a lazy susan with tall sides so that nothing falls out when turned.

They work very well on a shelf in the bathroom cabinet.

Keep the lazy susan where you will use it the most. On the bathroom counter or inside the cabinet. These are especially helpful because they can store quite a few items without getting lost. I don’t think there is anything more frustrating than having to search for something when you are in a hurry to get out the door.

  1. Organize bathroom drawers with small clear bins.

Bathroom drawers can get messy quickly. The best solution I have found is clear drawer bins. They are easy to switch out and can be washed when needed.

The bins from Target are my favorite. I was able to get a set of different size bins that I could use to fit my vanity drawers.

Carefully, measure your drawers. By width and length. Then also height.

With these measurements, you can configure the bins to get the most efficient use of that space.

Try to fill the entire drawer with bins. If you have an odd leftover space, go ahead and fill it but be sure to line your drawers with shelf liner so they don’t get dirty.

I found that the long bins were perfect for storing toothpaste and hair brushes. Use separate ones for each item. I like these because then stuff doesn’t roll around in the drawer. It stays put put!

  1. Recycle candle jars to store cotton balls and q tips on a wall shelf.

Using my Cricut, I repurposed some empty candle jars for my daughter to store her scrunchies, make up brushes and cotton balls in. An old shelf that I spray painted white was installed above the vanity in her bathroom.

I did this several years ago and she still uses these on a daily basis.

This solved the problem of containing all her small items instead of having them clutter up the bathroom counter.

This is a great solution to storing all those little things you use regularly in a bathroom.

  1. Use a tiered tray on the bathroom counter.

To maximize your bathroom counter space, increase your storage by building upward. Use a three tiered tray and you will gain a lot of valuable vertical space. Each tier has lots of opportunities to organize the products you use daily.

I store the tallest products on top and then shorter ones on the lower two. I even used my repurposed candle jars on the bottom with some washcloths so I have everything right there to wash my face.

It is important to corral your products so they aren’t spread all over the counter. With a tray especially three tiers, this is easily accomplished.

Some Final Thoughts To Ease Into Organizing Your Bathroom

The most important part of any organization project is to keep it simple. Don’t over think all the small details.

Organization projects don’t have to be completed all at once. It is okay to clean and organize only one drawer or cabinet at a time. The last thing you want to be is overwhelmed by attempting to do more than you have time for.

  • Create a place for every useful item to live and store lesser used items out of the way.
  • Think about how you use your bathroom and organize it the way you use it.

It is very rewarding though when the bathroom organization is finished. Just think of all the time you will save by finding exactly what you need with little effort.
