Gift wrapping is a required activity at Christmas. But how do you make each gift extra special? You want all your gifts to be wrapped very pretty. Wrapping Christmas presents is not something I particularly enjoy. I wait till I have all my presents bought before I begin wrapping. Then I bring them all into my craft room where I have a large table. That is when I have a massive gift wrapping session.

I discovered I can embellish my gifts with some adorable gift tags made with the Cricut Maker. Now, I can hardly wait to wrap Christmas gifts so I can use the holiday gift tags I crafted. These monogram tags are so simple but really make the gifts stand out. I love simple but elegant ways to decorate my presents. A little ribbon and a monogram tag are just enough to make the gifts extra special.

Whenever you have time, go through the project pages in Cricut Design Space. There are lots of creative ideas. This is where I picked up my idea to use the monogram tags to embellish my Christmas presents. Each person gets their own initial gift tag.

Cricut Access

These are perfect. They are intended to hang on stockings but are equally at home on gifts. They are available as part of the Cricut Access. If you don’t have Cricut Access, I highly recommend giving it a try. The Cricut Access is a subscription plan that allows you to use any of the thousands of images and fonts they have. Not to mention all the ready to make projects. You can use the plan on a month to month basis or yearly. Of course, yearly is less expensive. If you only use your Cricut occasionally, using one month at a time may be a better option for you.

How To Make Cricut Monogram Tags

  • Supplies needed: Light weight chip board and self adhesive vinyl.
    • To make these easy and simple monogram tags, I used some light weight chip board from Hobby Lobby. Then because I love rustic buffalo plaid, I used some red and black buffalo plaid vinyl by Cricut. I adore this patterned vinyl. It’s called Rustic Lodge Lumberjack.

  • Bring up the images in Cricut Design Space.
    • I used the font in the image set by Wit and Delight Holiday Decor. You can search for this in Cricut Design Space with #M955731A for alphabet tags A – M and #M9557328 for alphabet tags N – Z. The font has a little ring to add a ribbon tie to string through. The Cricut machine cuts this little ringed monogram perfectly.
    • The letter tags will appear on your canvas as a set of either A – M or N – Z. You will need to ungroup the letters to select the ones you want to use. Then simply delete or hide the ones you don’t want to cut.

Tip To Delete Unwanted Images

I like to move the tags I want off to the right side of my canvas. Then I can draw a box around the remaining ones and delete those with one click. Much easier than clicking each one separately to delete the extra letters.

  • Size the letter tags.
    • Once I have only the letter tags I need, I size the letters to 5 inches high. This is a great size for presents.

  • Apply the adhesive vinyl.
    • Apply the vinyl to the chipboard before cutting the Cricut monogram letters. It is very easy to add to the chipboard.

Add The Cricut Gift Tags To Your Presents

Wrap each gift in a pretty paper. Add a length of ribbon around the gift, finishing with a pretty bow. I used a wire ribbon that coordinated with the buffalo plaid monogram letters. You could easily use up your scraps of ribbon because this method of embellishing uses such a small amount.

Attach the monogram tag to the ribbon using twine or cord. I tied the cord for the tag to the ribbon underneath the bow. This makes such a pretty presentation. Suitable for all. Boys, girls and all ages. Everyone enjoys their monogram.

Other materials for cutting the letters

  • Print then cut feature using patterns
  • Cereal box instead of chipboard

This is an example of using the print then cut feature for the Cricut monogram tags. If you don’t have any buffalo plaid, just print it on heavy weight cardstock using the patterns included in Cricut Design Space.
