Simple Neutral Fall Home Decor Ideas
These simple fall home decor ideas are just that simple with no fuss. Having every surface filled is unnecessary to express a warm atmosphere. You can create a space that is both welcoming and lived in without being overdone.
Fall is absolutely my favorite season to decorate our home. When the weather starts getting cooler, I can feel that fall is coming soon. Meaning that it’s time to make our home all about being warm, cozy and inviting.
This can be done using your everyday decor by swapping out a few pieces. I use lots of vases and bowls where I simply change out the florals and bowl filler. Of course, I do buy a few new pieces of decor each season to keep my home decor fresh. That’s what makes it fun.
Getting Started
To start, I like to assess what I already own. Over the years I have collected quite a bit of fall decor. I will go through my bins of autumn treasures and pick out what I think I want to use. It’s during this time that I decide on a color palette.
My suggestions to get started:
Once you have decide on the above three points, shop your fall decor. Pull out any and all items that fit your checklist. This will give you an idea if you need to fill in any gaps with new decor. I have become very picky when adding any new fall decor.
It’s much better to reuse what you have both for your budget and for nostalgia. It’s enjoyable being able to reconnect with past home decor. Like reuniting with old friends.
Seasonal Decorating In The Entryway
I love having a sideboard in my entryway. It gives me a flat surface to decorate and plenty of storage spaces like drawers and shelves.
I started with the large vase and filled it a with bunch of large stems. The natural looking stems of faux leaves brings a lot of warmth to this area. This is what I call my statement vase. It’s what draws in your eye. The wood bead garland draping the vase adds more interest. A simple yet effective way to dress up a plain vase.
Adding in a few pumpkins with a wooden bowl of pinecones and acorns brings even more warmth to this vignette with texture. I didn’t use a lot of pumpkin decor this year in the entry way. I wanted to bring in seasonal decor with more subtle touches. Such as color and texture.
One of the few new pieces I added this year was the wooden bowl. A lovely rustic bowl filled with natural elements. Perfect for fall decor. It can be used for my everyday decor, too.
Placing a mirror on a wall will give a small space more depth. Creating an illusion of it being bigger than it really is. I kept the mirror simple so as not to detract from the fall decor beneath it.
Using a lantern with a battery operated candle is my nod to farmhouse here. I love the chippy paint and the coziness this adds to the setting.
Creating A Beautiful Buffet For Fall
This buffet has been a part of our home for many years. The deep rich color complements the contrast of the white and green tones I chose for this vignette. I went very simple here.
The green ribbed vases were a lovely find at Target this year. I like using glass objects that have some architectural interest like the ribbing. Instead of filling the vases with faux flowers, I decided to use them as candleholders instead. Filled with battery operated candles, I can set the timer to have them light up at dusk. This gives effortless ambience.
I believe in varying heights in a display. That as your eye travels across, it gives interest. I filled a small planter with sunflowers and green pumpkins to accent my color palette. Placing this on a riser and adding two fall floral picks, completes the look.
Rustic Fall Dining Room
For my dining table, I chose a plain off white tablecloth layered with a striped table runner. This gives interest without being fussy. Using a single dinner plate, I added a cloth napkin on top. A grapevine napkin holder is just enough decoration to give this a rustic vibe.
I’ve used my dough bowl for a dining room table centerpiece. On each side, I placed a couple of brass candlesticks for color and warmth. I adore the rustic elegance this gives my dining room table. A pleasant and inviting atmosphere for guests.

Neutral Living Room Decor
Let’s start with this console table in my living room. It sits next to my stairs. I have different colors of each wood table in my home. The various tones of wood convey a lived in feeling. This console is a lighter color than I normally use. The whitewashed wood pairs beautifully with the natural colors of fall.
Using vases is an easy way to add height to a table. By varying the stems length, you can make the display high or low. Filling a vase is easy. Just place about three to five stems of different heights and you’re done.
The acorns here that I used were once a stark white. They didn’t go with my color palette. I rubbed furniture scratch cover up on them to give them that golden glow. Much better. Use what you have and alter it. The results can be just what you want without spending more money on decor.
For this vignette, I chose a whitewashed theme. I was able to carry it out by placing the beaded round tray and vase in similar tones. Using three objects in the tray, created a nice balance. The beaded tray adds more interest and texture to the vignette.
The pumpkin sign gave a slight pop of color in this otherwise creamy palette. Do something unexpected to jazz things up a little!
The pair of lamps remain on this table year round. They go so nicely with the creamy wood table. It makes it easy to switch out seasonal decor. I rarely stray from the whitewashed look here regardless of the season.
Soft Textiles Add Warmth And Texture
Throw blankets and pillows are inexpensive way to add warmth and texture to your living room. Look for chunky throws or perhaps you already own a plaid wool blanket. Toss this over an arm of a chair or sofa. Instant fall feeling with texture.
Pillows come in many varieties of sizes, textures and colors. Add some onto a sofa or chair. Just don’t overdo it. In the past, I have added so many pillows that there wasn’t room to sit. Look for pillows that can add some texture like a knit sweater pillow or a velvet one. These are so pretty and give the right amount of softness to a living space.
The Fall Coffee Table
I have had this coffee table for years. It’s scuffed and scratched. I try to cover up the scuffs with a furniture scratch cover up. It’s still beautiful. Keeping it simple with a wood tray that is flanked by planters of wheat on either side.
This wood tray sits on my coffee table year round. This makes changing out seasonal decor very easy.
I can’t get away from my pumpkins. Pumpkins are my weakness. I have scattered a few throughout my home but I wanted to add the remnants to my coffee table. Adding a book as a riser, I placed two pumpkins on top and a pumpkin in front. Then for texture I scattered a couple of grapevine spheres and used what I had left of my pinecones and acorns. Then for a pop of color, I added in an orange pumpkin.
Let’s Be A Little Moody In The Kitchen
I didn’t do a lot of fall decorating in the kitchen this year. Only one counter has been decorated. This little area next to my stove is my favorite! I added this brown ribbed pitcher and filled it with some faux sunflowers. More ribbing to add texture. Placed a few brass acorns on the riser that always has my salt cellar on it. Layered a small framed pear print and I was done. Simple yet effective.
The framed pear print has muted colors that begs to have brass accents. The pumpkin coquette and the oil dispensers both have brass details which ties the whole vignette together. With all the white in this kitchen, these small accents have a big impact on bringing a fall feeling to the space.
In Conclusion
You don’t necessarily need a lot of fall decor to make a statement. Putting out just a few pieces can make an impact. Try to use what you already own. Buy only classic pieces that you love. Don’t buy fall decor to just fill up a space.
Paint or alter anything that isn’t your stye anymore. Making subtle changes can make you fall in love with outdated decor all over again.
The decor you choose doesn’t necessarily need to be lots of pumpkins or tons of floral that are obviously fall. It can be color that implies fall. Choose items that have a feeling not necessarily a theme. Incorporate your everyday decor into a fall vibe.
I hope you found some fall home decor ideas to inspire you this season.
