Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake Recipe
Cinnamon swirl coffee cake is the perfect treat to go along with a mid morning coffee break. A delicious yellow cake swirled with cinnamon and walnuts.
Recently, a rep brought a cinnamon swirl coffee cake into my office. It was moist and full of cinnamon walnut filling . After one piece, I wanted more but hey that would’ve been rude of me to gobble the whole cake. I could not get that cake out of my mind. Of course I had to bake one.

I couldn’t find a recipe that used ingredients that I had on hand. So, I decided to use my tried and true yellow cake recipe. I then created a cinnamon walnut streusel .
Time Saving Tips
- Self rising flour – I used self rising flour in this coffee cake. Self rising flour contains flour, baking powder and salt. So, no need to take extra steps or ingredients.
- Stand mixer – I made the cake batter in my stand mixer. It makes short work of mixing the cake batter.
- Food Chopper – The cinnamon walnut streusel I put together in my little Kitchenaid Chopper. It chopped and mixed the cinnamon filling in seconds. Much better than having to mix by hand which isn’t hard.
I love kitchen gadgets.
Especially those that save time and effort.

After pulsing the ingredients , the filling is perfectly mixed.

I baked the cake in a silicone bundt pan from Pampered Chef. I use this pan constantly. I always get good results from it. I put about one half of the streusel filling into the bundt pan first so there would be a crunchy topping on my cake. Then I added half of the cake batter to the pan and added the remaining streusel on top of the batter. I poured the rest of the batter on top.

After baking for approximately 40 -45 minutes depending upon your oven, here is the delicious piece I devoured after allowing the cake to cool. Which was very hard, the aroma of cinnamon and walnuts was hard to resist.

Enjoy!

Cinnamon Walnut Streusel
- Add all ingredients in the order given into a mini food chopper or food processor. Pulse until well combined. Or combine all ingredients in a bowl but chop the nuts first.
- Layer one third of the streusel in the bottom of the bundt pan. Next cover the streusel with half the cake batter. Add the last of the streusel on top of that. Add the remaining cake batter over the last layer of streusel.
- Bake for approximately 40 – 45 minutes or till done. Your oven may vary. Cake is done when a toothpick is inserted and comes out with just a few crumbs on it.
- Let cool in pan for ten minutes then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
