Spring Dining Table Decor Ideas

Looking for spring dining table decor ideas? These tips will inspire you to get your table ready for spring.

When spring arrives, my dining room is the first room to go from blah to pretty in pink. I love all the pastel colored Easter eggs and sweet bunnies that are the core of my spring decor.

I mainly concentrate on my dining table for spring decor. This is the first thing guests see when entering my home. It’s a way of saying welcome to our home, we are glad you are here.

I like to keep it dressed up pretty even if no one but us sees it. It makes me happy.

I will be hosting Easter dinner this year for our children. This means a few extra special touches to our table. Even though I tend to use the same decor every year, I do add a few new pieces. This helps to refresh my decor and keep it current.

Ceramic or resin bunnies are my weakness. I can’t help but add one or two new bunny figurines to my collection.

How To Decorate A Spring Table

This is my formula for setting any dining table. I have this outlined in my post on how to set a pretty table but using a few less steps.

Choose Your Color Scheme

I like to use pastel colors when it comes to spring decor. They reflect the freshness of the season. These color tones are a wonderful transition from the winter doldrums to the renewal of spring.

For this tablescape, I am using pink as my focal color. Of course, I am accenting with greens and blues.

Start With A Foundation

A foundation for your table is what you want to build your place settings and centerpiece on. Your options would be a tablecloth, a table runner or placemats. Or even a combination of these.

For my table, I am using a white table runner from Hobby Lobby. I love this piece. It is a solid color that goes with everything. If you like to sew, I have a tutorial on how to sew a simple table runner. This will allow you to choose what fabric you want to use. There are lots of cute spring printed fabrics to pick from. You could also embellish this how you want.

Add A Centerpiece For Your Table

A centerpiece is the most important focal point for your table. It will dominate your table decor. Making it extra special will give it the attention it deserves.

The typical centerpiece would be a vase of fresh or faux flowers which is beautiful on its own. Add some candles and you have a stunning focal point for your table.

I decided to go with a dough bowl filled with green stems, speckled eggs, faux carrots and bunny figurines. You can do many things with a dough bowl. Be as simple or elaborate as you please. In my case, I kept adding green stems to get it as full as I wanted.

Be playful with the dough bowl. I have a little bunny that is kind of hiding in the greenery. Anyone who spots this little critter is sure to smile. Hide something to see if anyone might spot it.

Be Creative With Your Dinner Ware

For our everyday dinner plates, I always use white. For this spring tablescape, I wanted to bring out my pink plates. They are a very pale pink which coordinates beautifully with my theme. These are the same plates I used in this farmhouse spring dining table look.

I topped them off with bunny salad plates from Pottery Barn that I got many years ago. They came in a set of four. I wish I had bought two sets so I could use them in a table setting for six. Hopefully, I can find some coordinating plates to add for more place settings.

I believe it is perfectly fine to mix your dining pieces with different plates. It gives your table more visual interest. I do this for my Thanksgiving dining table. I love the eclectic look of mismatched dinnerware as long as you have a cohesive base such as the pink dinner plates.

Use Cloth Napkins

I don’t use cloth napkins for everyday but I do for special occasions. Cloth napkins come in so many different colors and prints. I find my napkins at Home Goods. They always have a great selection and are fairly inexpensive. Cloth napkins add a bit of elegance to a table.

I am using these pink and white striped napkins with a distressed white napkin ring. I also use these in my farmhouse spring dining table. The best way to display napkins with napkin rings is to place it on the side of your plate instead of the middle. This way the design of the salad plate isn’t hidden.

I like to pull my napkins through a napkin ring. Just pick up the napkin in the center after laying it flat on the table and then push the point of the napkin through the napkin ring. Simple and elegant.

Another way to display your napkin is to fan fold the napkin and place into a napkin ring. You can see how I did this in my post for a Fresh Beautiful Blues Easter Table.

If you prefer not to use a napkin ring, place the napkin folded lengthwise under the salad plate. This looks really pretty, too.

Flatware and Glassware

Flatware is an essential element in your dining place settings. If you have any family heirloom silverware, now is the time to shine it up and use it. Or maybe it’s time to invest in some unique flatware.

I have a set of flatware that is a little different from my everyday pieces. It gets used in all my holiday tables. This set is heavy and distressed which is a bit uncommon for flatware.

I rarely use my stemmed glassware for everyday, however I always bring out these water goblets for special occasions. My water glasses are a very simple Martha Stewart brand from many years ago. I still enjoy using them.

Using stemmed glassware elevates your table with a touch of elegance. So, go ahead and pull out your special glasses. There are a lot of nice glasses in antique shops or the big box stores if you don’t currently own any stemware.

Bring In Decorative Accessories

I like to add some whimsy to my spring dining table. These little bunnies that hold a faux speckled egg are just enough of a whimsical addition. Just little touches can add so much to your table decor.

I don’t think any tablescape is complete without some sort of candle holder. These white lanterns have a galvanized top which adds a bit of rustic feeling to my table. The lanterns hold a battery operated tea light. This makes a safe and lovely accent for this spring dining table.
