Old fashioned sloppy joes is a simple thirty minute meal. Hearty and comforting. Made with lean ground beef, peppers and onions in a tangy tomato sauce.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and bell peppers. Sauté till softened about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from skillet onto a plate. Set aside.
Add ground beef to the skillet and brown till no longer pink over medium heat. Drain grease.
Stir in the rest of the ingredients including the sautéed onions and peppers till well combined. Cover skillet. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
Serve over hamburger buns.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight, sealed container for up to three days in the refrigerator.
Notes
Celery and garlic - You could also add chopped celery and minced garlic to this recipe. Just sauté it along with the onions and peppersBell peppers - Traditionally green bell peppers are used but I like the sweetness of a yellow or orange bell pepper. Use what you like for this recipe.
