These simple ideas add the right amount of Christmas decor. This allows your kitchen to function but still have a holiday spirit.

There is so much wonderful Christmas decor that it can be hard to choose. From cute Santas to whimsical gingerbread decor and much more. What a fun dilemma to have.

I have a few tips to help you decorate your kitchen for Christmas to make it easier. Let’s make this fun, festive and very merry!

Get started by clearing your kitchen counters of all the things on it. This gives you the opportunity to clean the countertops. Getting into the corners and generally a thorough cleaning.

Since a kitchen is used everyday, it needs to remain functional. This limits on how much space you can dedicate for decor. For me, this means my Christmas decor has to only occupy the corners of my counters. I have very limited counter space.

There are some items that are non-negotiable. These things must be out on the counters because I use them for almost every meal. This includes my knife block, salt and pepper grinders, cooking oil dispensers and my crock of kitchen tools.

Use Collections

Group like decor together as a collection. I like to to group decor together. Such as displaying my Santa mug collection on a mug tree or a bottle drying rack.

This could be a grouping of Santa figurines or a ceramic gingerbread collection. As long as there is a common theme such as color or object, a grouping make a delightful statement.

Three bowls stacked on a cake stand with tree Christmas decor on a counter.

I love green and white decor for Christmas so I have quite a few tree themed decorations. For this display, I placed a tree figurine on a stand to add height. I put my favorite mixing bowls and a cute measuring cup next to it with these fun measuring spoons. I set this grouping in a corner with an adorable cutting board. I love the impact it makes.

I used a cake stand to add height to the tree mixing bowls. Putting plastic lids inside each bowl keeps them from being nested inside each other. This cute tree towel was the perfect accent to tuck into the top bowl.

Look around your decor and I’m sure you’ll also be able to put together a theme.

Set Up A Festive Baking Station

A baking station doesn’t have to be elaborate. It can be representative with a few items. I found this adorable blow mold gingerbread man this year. I put him next to the cutting board to make a simple vignette. A couple of mason jars filled with colorful candies round out this display. I couldn’t resist adding the Santa spoon rest since this area is close to the stove.

I wanted something cute in this corner to remind me of how much fun baking is for holiday gifts. Speaking of gifts, you should try these fun and festive almond bark pretzels rods. Yummy!

I love to bake cookies for the holidays. Especially these pecan sandies. I don’t have enough counter space in this corner to house my stand mixer. It’s at the other end of my coffee counter. It does take up a lot of space so I put it where I could.

Be flexible when it comes to decor. It needs to make sense for your space.

Use Ribbon To Add A Festive Touch

If you add only one thing to your kitchen for Christmas, make it ribbon. A pretty fabric ribbon is so versatile. I tie it around many things in my home. For the kitchen, I used it for my utensil crock. Adding a few seasonal kitchen tools to the crock for a touch of merriment.

I tied a bow around each of the pendant lights. This added enough decor without being over powering. Tied with a simple bow since the ribbon makes a statement on its own.

Dress Up A Coffee And Cocoa Bar

Do you have an area that you could choose as a coffee and cocoa bar? It doesn’t have to be a counter. It could be a small table or a stand alone chest of drawers or a small console table.

I do have a separate counter that holds my coffee maker which is perfect for a coffee and cocoa bar. I was able to fit a round tray with a Santa cookie jar, cocoa jar and more baking items. These small items fit within the same color family although they aren’t cocoa related. The round tray makes it easy to move if I need more space on my counter.

Next to that tray is my Santa mug collection. I have only recently began collecting these. I may need to rethink where to put these if my collection grows any larger.

Having a small lamp on a kitchen counter is perfect for a nightlight. It gives off a nice warm glow in the evening. With this, you don’t need to turn on the overhead light which can be too bright for midnight trips to the kitchen.

Set Out Seasonal Towels And Potholders

Using seasonal towels and potholders is one of the easiest ways to add some merry to your kitchen. There is plenty of both in stores. More than likely, you own some already. Placing a few towels on the oven door handle or dishwasher can immediately dress up your kitchen.

You could also tuck a towel into a drawer letting it drape over the front. How fun is that?

Drape a decorative towel over a set of bowls or your stand mixer bowl. This adds a small detail that makes a big impact. I have lots of Christmas towels and this one trick lets me use more of them. Plus they won’t get used for hand drying.

Having potholders within arms reach of the oven is essential in a kitchen. So why not make them fun and whimsical? Place a hook on a wall close to your stove for easy access. Then change them out with each season.

Decorate A Plate Rack

I have always wanted a plate rack to hang on the end of my kitchen cabinets. These racks are perfect for decorating. I was fortunate to have found this wall mounted book shelf at Home Goods earlier this year. Although not a plate rack, it does holds cookbooks and miscellaneous objects so well. I love it.

The deeper size allows me to fill the shelves with layers of decor. I have a cookbook on each shelf that is behind cutting boards and a full size Santa platter.

I did add more ribbon wherever I could in this shelving unit. Such as on the tree cutting board. A sprig of greenery tied with a trail of ribbon is tucked into one of the shelves. I love the festive touch. This rack holds a lot of vintage Christmas items. And a few new, too.

These Mr. and Mrs. Claus salt and pepper shakers are one of the first Christmas decor I bought when we got married. I treasure these. Since they are small I can always find a place for them. A safe place that will ensure they don’t get knocked over by chance.

I hope you found some inspiration to decorate your Christmas kitchen. You don’t need a lot of decor to make your kitchen warm and cozy for the holiday season.
