How To Quickly Clean Your Family Room

Quickly clean your family room is what we are talking about. The family room is one of the most important rooms in our homes. And the one that gets the most wear and tear. Cleaning this room shouldn’t take long with these tips to get it done quickly.

After all cleaning isn’t the most fun but it can be gratifying if done right.

While putting all the holiday decorations away, our family room looked bare. I had removed everything off the mantel and each of the tables. You know what that means. All the dust bunnies, glitter and pine needles were showing. What better time to do a quick deep cleaning of our family room.

To get the most bang for your time, I have devised a series of steps to follow to quickly clean your family room. This way the cleaning will be thorough without back tracking.

The couch moved into the middle of the room.

Clear The Room Of All Small Objects

Every flat surface should be clear. All tables and shelves. Take all the decor and other stuff like toys and video games into another room. It is best to clean with little distraction . The less you have to lift to dust the better.

Now wipe down each flat surface with your favorite dusting tool. I use a micro fiber cloth.  They do the best job for me. Occasionally I will bring out the furniture polish but not very often. For this cleaning we are opting for speed. So a micro fiber cloth it is.

Always clean from the top to the bottom. Let gravity be your friend. Don’t work against it.

Pull All Furniture Into The Middle Of The Room

Pull the couches and chairs away from the walls and into the middle of the room. This will enable you to sweep or vacuum underneath the pieces of furniture. Don’t cringe when you see what lurks behind that couch. Pull any rugs into another area.

Quickly Clean The Floors

Use the cleaning tool of your choice to clean the floors. Be it a swifter, broom or vacuum.

We have laminate hardwood flooring in our family room. I use a stick vacuum to clean it. This vacuum is lightweight so it doesn’t take a lot of effort to push it around.  It makes quick work of cleaning our laminate wood floors.

I then use a wet swiffer cloth to further clean the any remaining dirt.

If you have any rugs, give them a quick vacuuming.

Clear The Cobwebs

Somehow we get lots and lots of spider webs. They appear under chair legs  and  in corners. I found the best tool to remove these sticky messes. It is called Quickie Cobweb Duster. I first discovered it when I saw our pest control guy at work use it. This tool works great. You never have to touch the spider webs.

Just run this tool along furniture and walls. Don’t forget the corners near the ceilings. Spider love to hang out there.

I just shake the cobweb duster outside to clean it when I have finished using it.

Move The Furniture Back Into Place

Push all furniture back against any walls or where they belong. Now move any tables so you can clean beneath them as well. Move the tables back to their places

A Place For Everything

Now bring back your decor. Place it back where you would like it.

What about the toys and video games? They need a specific spot in your family room. Find a lovely basket or two to store them. Lidded baskets work wonderfully in a family room. They make stuff accessible but the items are also be hidden from view. You need to make a space in your family room for family activities. It is after all a family room.

Baskets also are useful in corralling remote controls. Even though we have a universal remote, we still have to have all the other remotes available. So into a wire basket they are stored. Like items stored together are less cluttered.

The Finishing Touches

Fluff the pillows.

Fold any throws. Drape them over the couch or store them in a basket.

And you are finished. Short and sweet and thoroughly cleaned. It didn’t take all that long.

Step back and admire your clean family room.

You can repeat the process with little effort. Any time.
