Desk Reveal Using Chalk Paint

Chalk paint is a wonderful thing. It glides so easily and the coverage is excellent. I wish I had discovered this stuff sooner.  I used it to renovate my roll top desk. The results are amazing.

Now onto what the desk looked like before. You can read about the beginning of this desk makeover.

Hard to believe it’s the same desk. I changed out the hardware in addition to painting it with chalk paint. I used bin handles for the large drawers and little knobs for the smaller drawers. I chose a matte  nickel finish.

It is now fully functional. I am able to sit my desk top computer on top. We recently invested in an all in one computer which means there is no tower. Plus the mouse and keyboard are wireless. Less clutter. That’s a win.

The chalk paint I used is Americana Decor in Primitive. I bought it at Home Depot. This paint is not cheap. I used almost two eight ounce jars of this paint. I may try to mix my own for future projects.

I also used clear Johnson Paste Wax to finish. Using a wax on top of chalk paint, transforms the paint into a matte finish. Goes from chalky to silky, just with wax. I applied the wax with a paper towel. Make sure you do this step in a well ventilated area. The odor from the paste wax is strong.

It is wonderful to able to sit at my desk and actually work from it. We did have the computer on an old computer stand that also held the printer. Basically, a three shelf unit with a slide out keyboard. It is now gone.  It was sad looking. Sorry, I don’t have a picture to show of it. I was so ecstatic to get rid of it.

We replaced the printer stand with one we built. Our industrial printer stand made with wood and plumbing pipes. Love it. I will share that in another post.
