10 Tips You Need To Know To Make A Cozy Home
Creating a cozy home is the first thing I think of when the temperatures begin to drop. To have a warm and inviting haven, a refuge from the stresses of the outside world.
A place to kick up your feet, to relax and rewind. This especially desired during the cold winter months. Warm and inviting are the words to creating your comfy, cozy home. Here are ten tips you need to know to make a cozy home.

How To Make A Cozy Home
Lighting
Coming home to a dark house after a long day is less than ideal to creating a cozy home. WIth the days shorter in the winter months, it is more important to have at least one light on to greet you as you walk in.
My favorite product is to use Smart bulbs by Kasa. I can program these light bulbs with my smart phone through the Kasa app. If you own an Alexa device, you can also use voice commands to control the light bulbs. I have two smart bulbs in my family room. One is programmed to come on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 pm.
I can also control the brightness of these light bulbs. With voice control or the app, It can be dimmed in any increment you wish.
Coming home to a home with a light on, is one of the best welcomes you can have.
Scented Candles
Having candles lit in a scent you adore, is both relaxing and is a great mood lifter. Very calming. Candles add a warm glow to a cozy home with a comforting scent. You could always use unscented candles if scents bother you. There are many battery operated candles that have a flickering flame if you have small children around. A better safety option. Another plus with battery operated candles is many have a timer that will keep lit for x amount of hours.

Seasonal Beverage
There is nothing better than to sit down with a warm mug of something something, you know. It is very relaxing. Pair your hot drink with a cookie or small piece of cake. What a great pick me up.
Start with your favorite mug and fill it with coffee, hot tea or warm cocoa. There are so many options. Pumpkin spice, peppermint mocha to name my favorites. Lots of flavored creamers, too. Stop in your local grocery store for a huge selection of seasonal beverages and toppings. Sometimes, I’ll just browse the end caps of Target just to see what new flavors have been added for the season. Take a chance on a new flavor. You just might have a new favorite. Then make sure you keep plenty in the pantry. Seasonal flavors don’t last long.
Create A Cozy Reading Nook
Grab a comfy chair, add a throw and a little table with a lamp to create a cozy reading corner. This is the perfect way to warm up and unwind after a long day. Or simply curl up in the chair on a lazy Sunday afternoon with a good read. The lamp and table serve as the perfect companion for a cup of hot soup to rest on while you read your book. Unplug and unwind in this lovely addition to your family or living room.

Add Throws And Pillows
Looking to warm up your family room? There is no better way than adding layers to your sitting areas. Just like you add layers of clothes to warm up, this works the same for your chairs and sofa. The pillows and throws add instant warmth not only in functionality but they also invite you in to sit.
Choose down pillows for the ultimate in softness. Poly fill pillows may retain their shape better but they can’t hold a candle to the softness of down pillows. If you have the opportunity to visit Ikea, they have the best prices on down pillows inserts. Just choose a cover to go on it or better yet sew one in your favorite fabric. You can follow my how to sew a pillow cover tutorial.
When choosing a throw to drape over your couch, look for texture. A knit, cabled throw is my personal favorite. You want a throw that you can snuggle under during the cold winter months.

Use Seasonal Towels And Soaps
Putting our seasonal towels in the bathroom and kitchen, is the easiest way to create coziness and warmth. Hang a pretty hand towel in your bathroom along with setting out a bottle of scented hand soap in your bathroom. It’s a little luxury that will be well appreciated each time someone washes their hands.
Do the same in the kitchen. You can even add a scented dish soap such as Mrs. Myers. This dish soap makes hand washing dishes a little bit more pleasurable.

Fill Baskets With Throws And Pillows
Decorating with baskets is one of my favorite ways to add coziness to a room. Especially if you use rattan or another natural fiber. Natural fibers add warm whereas a wire basket doesn’t.
Place a basket in a corner and fill it with extra throws and pillows. Perfect for offering to guests when coming in from the chilly outside.
Bring The Outdoors In
Bring a little bit of nature to your decor. A few twigs, some pine cones and acorns mixed in a tray with your other decorative items will warm up your space. These elements could be faux if you would rather have that.
Decorate With Small Vignettes
Keep your vignettes small and preferably corralled in a tray or bowl. The last thing you want to do is leave a cluttered space with too many decorative pieces. You need to leave room for visual space. Empty spaces give the eyes something to rest on. Edit your decor to a simple tray.
A Full Pantry
Make sure your pantry is filled. Once you are home, the last thing you want to do is go out and grab dinner. To help you meal plan, I have a few ideas to help you plan easy dinners. A full tummy is one of the best ways to create a cozy home.

Oh yes on the scents! We just switched out your yankee candle melts with more fall/winter spicy cents and it’s amazing what a difference it has made on the mood of the house. Lots of great suggestions here! Pinned.
Leaves by Bath and Bodyworks is my absolute favorite fall scent. I’ll have to try out some Yankee Candle scents. Thanks for pinning and please come back to visit again!
Carol, great tips! (Except for the scented candles–like a lot of people, I’m allergic to fragrances.) I especially appreciate “Full Pantry.” And Throws and Pillows. I just love “cozy!” #PrettyPintastic
I love cozy, too!! I am such a homebody. Curling up with a good book or movie is just enough adventure for me. Thanks, Jean for visiting. Please visit again.
I love your tips because “cozy” is right up my alley! I have to be honest, before we bought our house this past October, throw pillows were not at the top of my list for having in our home. It’s amazing how they really add to a room. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Shelly! Throw pillows are my number one accessory to add that cozy factor to a room. Add a throw or two and your room is already cozied up!
These are some good ideas
Thank you Lana.
