Easter cupcakes are fun to decorate. I give you permission to add lots of frosting and candies. Easter wouldn’t be the same without candy. Pastel colored candy and frosting. I have used a fun and kid friendly way to decorate Easter cupcakes. Using a special piping tip and decorating bag. And candy. Can’t forget that.
These cupcakes are so full of spring like goodness. Especially the fresh and pretty colors.
The Grass Decorating Piping Tip
I have had this grass cake decorating tip for years. It actually looks like grass when you are piping the cupcakes. Lots of fun. Here is a picture of it.
You can use this tip to make birds’ nests, too. That is something I will try later.
See all those little holes? That is what makes it look like grass. This is Wilton Tip 233. Ateco also make a grass decorating tip.
How To Decorate Fun Easter Cupcakes
First off go ahead and make the cupcakes. I used a chocolate cake recipe. Grass comes out of dirt, right? So, chocolate cupcakes it is. Make some of your favorite buttercream frosting. Don’t buy the stuff in the can. It is way too soft. Make your own. Make it a little stiff so the grass stands up. But not so stiff you can’t get squeeze the buttercream through it. I made my buttercream too soft by adding too much milk.
Learn from my mistakes. My grass didn’t stand up. Insert pouty face.
Color your buttercream green with a gel food coloring. I am sure you have some leftover from Christmas. Blend the food color in well.
Stand the disposable pastry bag in a glass. This makes it easier to fill. Place a coupler in the bag after snipping off the end of the pastry bag.
Spoon the green buttercream into the pastry bag. Don’t over fill the bag or frosting will be all over the kitchen.
I speak from experience. Remember, learn from my mistakes.
Twist the pastry bag shut and secure with a rubber band. This will save you from uttering words you shouldn’t when buttercream oozes out of the pastry bag.
Attach the grass decorating tip to the pastry bag and twist on the ring. You are now ready to decorate the Easter Cupcakes.
Pipe the green buttercream in a mound on top of the cupcake. When there is enough buttercream covering the cupcake, stop piping.
This is where the kids can help. Put three pastel colored candies on top of the green grass buttercream. I used M & M’s but it’s your preference.
Continue decorating the rest of the cupcakes. Aren’t they adorable?
These were kid tested and approved. Seriously.
I may need to bake and decorate more of these.
When you make these cupcakes, please leave a comment. I would love to know how they turned out.
