A handmade birthday is simplicity at it’s finest. We celebrated my grown son’s birthday this past weekend. It consisted of nothing more than dinner at home with a home baked cake. A hand made birthday card. A lovely store bought technology present. All was well received. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Birthday’s are special days. Especially for parents. Each year is a milestone regardless of age. It is a time to reflect on the past and contemplate the future.
I baked the cake that day we were to celebrate my son’s birthday so it was fresh. I iced it with home made buttercream frosting. It was two layers of yellow cake sprinkled with sweetened coconut. For tips on how to bake a delicious yellow cake see this post.
I used my Cricut Explore to make the birthday card.
The Birthday Card
It was so much fun to put together this card. I own many images. I didn’t want to purchase any new ones. With the Cricut Design Space. the software will let you search key words within images you already own. There is a filter next to the search box which will let you choose how you want to search. Whether it be My Images, Uploaded, Free, Subscription or Purchased. The filter looks like a funnel. So, I did a search for birthday with the filter My Images and got several choices.
I chose the two circled images above. The Happy Birthday was a free image and the present shaped card is from an Anna Griffin set I purchased called Christmas Kitsch. By changing the colors I was able to turn the card from Christmas to Birthday. I just adore Anna’s designs.
That was the birthday celebration. It was a lovely birthday with many memories. Just what celebrations are meant to be. Living intentionally.
