DIY Pipe And Wood Printer Stand
DIY pipe and wood printer stand. Plumbing pipes, fittings and wood for a printer stand. That’s what you need to build a piece of furniture. I have been admiring all these amazing projects and finally have built one. It was so simple and took less than an afternoon to complete. My kind of project.
When the desk makeover was completed, we needed something to put the printer on. This was the perfect opportunity to try and build a pipe and wood shelving unit. I love how it turned out. It is very sturdy and a bit heavy, due to the metal pipes.
Supplies:
- 8 pipes 12 inches long
- 20 flanges
- 4 caps
- 4 pipes 3 inches long
- 3 wood shelves cut 12″ x 24″
- screws
- drill
- wood stain
How To Build The Pipe And Wood Printer Stand
Begin by screwing with a drill, a flange onto each corner of the three shelves. Do this to top and bottom of 2 shelves. Put flanges on the bottom of the top shelf only.
Screw a 12 inch pipe into each flange except for the underside of the bottom shelf. Screw the 3 inch pipes onto the underside of the bottom shelf. Screw the caps onto the ends of the 4 inch pipes. These are the legs of the printer stand.
Stain the wood.
Note: Apply stain in a well ventilated area. Outdoors is best.
We used Minwax stain in Classic Gray. This color is perfect. It goes very well with the industrial look of the pipes. Wipe on the stain with a rag. Let dry. Apply another coat of stain till you get the look you want. We used only one coat. We like the look of the wood grain showing through the stain.
The pipe and wood printer stand finished at 31 inches tall. The printer fits perfectly on the stand along with a ream of paper. I am looking forward to decorating the top for the seasons.
Our little office corner is slowly coming together. I have more projects in mind for this space.
This was a fun project to put together. I see more furniture building in my house.
How much did this cost to make? I went to my local Home Depot today excited for this project, but when the hardware was going to cost over $100 I had to walk away!
What diameter of pipe did you use?
I don’t remember the price of the supplies. But I do remember it wasn’t cheap which is why we haven’t made anymore. However, when compared to what is available to buy, this stand is extremely sturdy. It doesn’t wobble. It is beautiful. Well made. Definitely a heirloom piece of furniture. This printer stand will last for many years to come. So even though it was expensive to build, in the long run it is worth the money.
Thanks Carol! It looks great.
Hello,
What type of screws did you use? The shelves aren’t very thick so I’m not sure which ones to use! Thanks
Hi Jenny,
The wood shelves are 3/4 inch thick. We used 1/2 inch screws. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for visiting!
