Bake these heart cookies for Valentine’s Day and you’ll be asked for more. This cookie is a rich shortbread that will melt in your mouth. The colored sugar adds just the right amount of sweetness.
Spritz cookies are made with a cookie press. This makes the cookies very easy to make in lots of different shapes. Plus the cookies are uniform and pretty fast to press out.
The secret is to use a regular baking sheet not a non stick pan, real butter not margarine and a cold dough. Other wise the cookies will not stick to the cookie sheet. If you have to use your cookie sheets for a second baking, make sure they are cool or your dough will not stick to the pan. I place mine in the refrigerator to cool the cookie sheet faster.
Once the spritz cookies have been pressed out, add sprinkles of your choice. I used red colored sugar. There is such a variety of sprinkles available. I just like to keep it simple.
Do not over bake this cookie. They are so much better soft than crispy. They take very little time in the oven. Average 6 minutes.
This recipe makes approximately 36 cookies. This depends on the shape you decide to use.
If you haven’t used a cookie press before, this would be a great time to try. The recipe is easy. These cookies are sturdy and would make a great gift.
