Walking past the clearance rack at Walmart, I spotted these rust colored sweatshirts. Pointing them out to my daughter, she wasn’t too thrilled with them. But they’re marked down to $5, I said. She shrugged her shoulders. We were in the men’s department looking for pocket tees to monogram for said daughter. She couldn’t find the color she wanted. We could monogram the sweatshirt. She had been wearing her dad’s XL sweatshirt the last couple of days. I thought this would be a perfect replacement.
Leaving Walmart, I began thinking what if we distressed the sweatshirt so it didn’t look so pristine and boring. I mentioned this to my daughter. She liked this idea. So, back into Walmart we went. The cashier rang up the sweatshirt. It was only $3!!! Score!
Into the washer it went with bleach and detergent. The first time didn’t really get the desired effect. So
it was bleached and washed a second time. Perfect distressed look. Once dried, it was off to my embroidery machine. Unfortunately, the back of the sweatshirt got caught in the machine and a hole was now in the back of the sweatshirt. With nothing really to lose, I sewed rows of stitches both vertical and horizontal to close up the hole. Design accent. This just added to the distressed look of the sweatshirt.
