This was such a fun project. I wanted to create a frame to showcase our recent trip to the beach. In the garage, there was a couple of pieces of 2×4 scraps from another project. Perfect. I sawed them to 9 inches in length. Then used a wooden paint stick cut it in two and nailed each one on opposite ends of the two wood pieces to keep them together. If you want to hang your frame, nail a frame hanger now.
I gathered my supplies together:
Apple Barrel acrylic paint in Key west
Burlap 2 1/2 inch wide ribbon
4 x 6 lucite magnetic frame
I purchased all my supplies except for the wood at Walmart.
Paint the wood with the acrylic paint. Allow to dry. Then using a rag or sponge paint brush, apply the stain. Then wipe off the excess stain. This tones down the acylic paint and it gives the wood an aged look. When I was a kid, we called this “anitiquing”.
I didn’t measure how much twine I used. I just started wrapping the twine around one end of the wood until I had the look I wanted. I simply tied it off on the back.
To make the burlap ribbon rose, I cut off a 24 inch length of ribbon. Tying a knot in one end and folding the remaining ribbon in half, I started twisting the ribbon around the knot to form the rose. Glue the end underneath the rose. Allow to dry. Glue the ribbon rose on top the the twine.
Position the frame next to the rose with the open end towards the rose. Glue the frame to the wood. Allow to dry.
Insert your favorite 4 x 6 picture. Enjoy!!!!
